MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP) The Crimson Tide has swamped No.1 Notre Dame 42-14 in the BCS championship game. The Fighting Irish didn't even score until they were down 35-0 late in the third quarter. Alabama became the third team to win three national titles in four seasons since polls started being used to crown champions in 1936.

DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Pakistan (AP) For the fourth time since the new year began, American drones have targeted suspected militants in a tribal area in Pakistan. Pakistani officials say several missiles struck a compound in Waziristan, killing eight suspected militants. One official says an al-Qaida operative was believed to have been killed in the strike.

WASHINGTON (AP) Afghanistan's leader will meet with President Barack Obama on Friday at the White House. Officials say Obama and President Hamid Karzai (HAH'-mihd KAHR'-zeye) will discuss the American exit from his country. Obama is expected to decide soon what the U.S. role in Afghanistan will be after 2014.

CENTENNIAL, Colo. (AP) A hearing is under way in suburban Denver to determine if there is sufficient evidence to try James Holmes in connection with the shooting deaths of 12 people at a movie theater in July. On Monday, relatives of victims and survivors packed a court and heard testimony from officers who tried to save the lives of victims. Holmes didn't appear to show any emotion.

TULSA, Okla. (AP) Police in Tulsa, Okla., aren't releasing many details about the deaths of four young women found shot to death in an apartment. A 4-year-old found in the apartment wasn't harmed. Police haven't said if the women knew each other of if the boy was related to any of them.
