HIDALGO COUNTY - Alamo city officials hope sex offenders will voluntarily turn off their lights this Halloween night.

Alamo Police Sgt. Lupita Valdez said high-risk sex offenders are expected to report to their probation officers.

She said parents should take their children to community events rather than go house to house collecting candy. Valdez said the streets can be dangerous, especially in areas with no sidewalks.

The Alamo Fire Department will host its annual Halloween festival near downtown, she said.
