DALLAS (AP) American Airlines and American Eagle have canceled nearly 1,000 flights as a North Texas ice storm affects travel systemwide.

American spokeswoman Mary Frances Fagan says all of the cancellations Friday are because of bad weather in the Dallas area. American's main hub is Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. American and American Eagle operate about 3,500 flights daily worldwide.

Dallas-based Southwest Airlines canceled nearly 80 flights systemwide Friday. More than half of Southwest's cancellations are at its main hub of Dallas Love Field.

Officials with Dallas Area Rapid Transit canceled rail service due to ice on the tracks. Travelers were being switched to DART buses.
