BROWNSVILLE - Authorities evacuated the 3000 block of Resaca Vista Drive, after a suspicious package exploded at a home there. Two adults and a 5-year-old girl were injured. All three suffered second degree burns.

We're told the child was flown to a San Antonio burn unit. The two adult victims were taken to a Valley Regional Medical Center. A Hazmat crew was sent to the hospital as a precaution. CHANNEL 5 NEWS learned the hospital closed its emergency room parking area to the public as a result.

Several agencies are investigating the incident. Authorities on the scene said a man at the home called police, after noticing the package between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. We're told he took the package inside the home. Investigators said the child was caught in the brunt of the explosion.

The explosive device is still in the home. Authorities are working to remove the package.

The home is located a few blocks from two elementary schools. Brownsville ISD officials said the schools are not in lockdown.

CHANNEL 5 NEWS has a crew on the scene and is working to get the very latest updates.
