HARLINGEN - A Harlingen bank robbery suspect is being held on a $101,000 bond. Joe Wayne Galipp was charged with felony robbery.
Police said the 49-year-old has a violent criminal history, but we're told he didn't use a weapon in yesterday's robbery attempt. It happened at the Bank of America on the 200 block of East Van Buren.
According to officers, Galipp walked into the bank and slid a note to the teller. The teller emptied the drawer and Galipp allegedly ran off with $8,260.
Undercover federal agents happened to be working near the bank on a different operation. They spotted Galipp him running away, followed him and called police.
Galipp was arrested a few blocks away. Police found the money and charged him with the second-degree felony.
