AUSTIN - The Texas Longhorns used a three-run eighth inning to blow open a one-run game and take a 9-5 decision from the Texas-Pan American Broncs (12-6) on Wednesday night in Austin. Bryan Maxwell put the Broncs in an early hole when the Longhorns scored four first inning runs on a two-run triple and an rbi double. Vincent Mejia's third home run of the season, a three-run shot in the third, tied the game 4-4. The Broncs grabbed another run in the inning to take a 5-4 lead. Yet, the Horns answered with a single run in the bottom of the fourth to tie and another run in the sixth to take a 6-5 lead. It stayed close until the bottom of the eighth, when Texas padded the one-run lead with three insurance runs. Texas head coach Augie Garrido has never lost to the Broncs in 22 starts, with all of the games played away from Edinburg. UT-Pan American takes the weekend off before starting Great West conference play next weekend.
