BROWNSVILLE - Brownsville school officials say they were unaware of previous issues with buses manufactured by International Corporation. Two buses that caught fire last week were made by International Corporation. BISD officials said the fires were electrical and started near the engine.
CHANNEL 5 NEWS investigated the company and found a lawsuit indicating a similar incident occurred near Louisville, Kentucky. Brownsville ISD has 100 buses made by International Corporation in their fleet of 300. Company representatives are inspecting the buses, but school representatives added they will have an independent contractor inspect the buses as well.
International Corporation has declined to comment on the incident in Kentucky. However, they issued a statement saying, "The safety of our students and customers is our first priority. We are cooperating fully with the customer and Brownsville officials to understand the root cause."
