MCALLEN - Border Patrol agents in the Rio Grande Valley will send a planeload of immigrants to El Paso for processing. The transport is expected to expedite processing needed after a surge of arrests, which have averaged about 1,000 per day.
Border Patrol spokesman Daniel Tirado said the flight will leave Brownsville this afternoon. We're told about 100 people will be flown to El Paso.
Agents arrested more than 130,000 since October 1. That's about a 67-percent increase from this time last year. The majority of people detained are from Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador.
