McALLEN - Border Patrol officials will bring portable buildings to McAllen to relieve illegal immigrant overcrowding at their station.

McAllen city officials are working with the feds drawing up plans for new water lines so the portable buildings can go up at the McAllen station.

McAllen Fire Marshall Juan Salinas said the station has 40 acres of open property.

Plans are in place to bring up to four portable buildings from a Border Patrol facility in Arizona.

The portable structures have 4,000 square feet in space and will be able to hold about 125 people each. Salinas said the structures should be in place in the next three weeks.

The McAllen Border Patrol station is over capacity by more than 500 people.
