MISSION - A man who was kidnapped from a house near Mission managed to escape. Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Trevino tells CHANNEL 5 NEWS the victim, Alejandro Gomez, had been tied up in a closet since Friday.
The sheriff says Gomez was being held in a trailer home on the 1700 block of 27th Street in Mission. Crime scene investigators searched the home overnight. There's no word yet if any evidence has been recovered or if any arrests were made.
The sheriff says the victim hasn't been able to to tell investigators much about why he was kidnapped. "He's been beat up pretty good. He may have some broken ribs; he has a lot of burns on his upper body and facial trauma," the sheriff explained.
Gomez is recovering from his wounds in a hospital. He told investigators he was able to get away by loosening his hands and making a run for it when the kidnappers stepped out.
Witnesses say two heavy-set men had pulled up to a home on Trosper and Mile 7 1/2 North last Friday. Witnesses said Gomez was forced into a black van.
