BROWNSVILLE - A Brownsville family is getting help nearly six months after losing their home to a fire.

Hilda Tabansky and her daughter were homeless after the July 4 blaze. They had only been able to get an apartment. That changed Wednesday. A group of Brownsville officers visited the mother-daughter duo to help fill their new home.

"I feel that the community has really come together to help people, and I've learned a very good lesson if I ever see or hear about somebody else and I will do my best to help them," says Tabansky.

This isn't the first time law enforcement adopts the Tabansky family. The deputy Santa program made a visit Tuesday with some special gifts just in time for the holidays.
