BROWNSVILLE - A man on Thursday was arraigned for his alleged role in a drug smuggling ring.
Hector Guerra Gonzalez was charged with possession of a controlled substance. Officials said he recruited a woman from Georgia to transport more than 10 pounds of cocaine from the Rio Grande Valley to the Atlanta area.
The woman, Angelica Escobar was arrested in April in Raymondville when police discovered the drugs.
Texas Department of Public Safety officials said the investigation took six months to complete. They said Guerra was the leader of the trafficking ring.
Court records show that Escobar made three trips to the Valley. Each time Guerra provided her with a car loaded with drugs to drive back to Georgia, records show.
