BROWNSVILLE - An 18-year-old wanted in connection with a shooting outside a Brownsville convenience store is now in custody.

Gerardo Montejano Jr. was arraigned this afternoon. He's accused of being the gunman in a shooting at a northeast Brownville store parking lot. His family turned him over to authorities at the Veterans International Bridge last night.

Montejano allegedly conspired with 24-year-old Jason Edward Crawford and 19-year-old Clarissa Maldonado to plan the shooting.

It happened Monday afternoon. Roman Garcia was shot once in the head.

Investigators said the 35-year-old victim and Maldonado had been dating, and Maldonado tried to break it off. According to authorities, when the 35-year-old continued to call her, the three suspects planned to scare him. That plan lead to the shooting.

Montejano's bond was set at $550,000. Meanwhile, Garcia remains in a San Antonio hospital in critical condition.
