PHARR - Reports of a shooting led Pharr police officers to nearly 700 pounds of marijuana.

A caller told police the driver of a green Jeep fired shots. Officers found the vehicle. The driver tried to run away. He ditched the vehicle on the 100 block of St. John Street and ran to a home on the 200 Jacobo. That's where police arrested him.

During a search of the home, investigators discovered 678 pounds of marijuana. Police are working to start the process of seizing the drugs.

"The Pharr police want to remind people that if you're going to do drugs, we're going to take all the necessary steps that we need to get rid of that," said Sgt. Maribel Garza of the Pharr Police Department.

In addition to the one man arrested, CHANNEL 5 NEWS spotted officers detaining two women. We're working to find out their role in the investigation. Police told us this case may be connected to other investigations.

We learned two children were inside the home where the drugs were found. They'll be turned over to Child Protective Services.

Meanwhile, police are still looking into the report of shots fired. There's no word yet if anyone or anything was hit.
