A Cameron County man is in jail, charged with robbing a fireworks stand on New Year's Day.
Sheriff deputies say Eduardo Ivan Rivera took about $3,000 in cash. Sheriff's officers say he held up two men working at a fireworks stand in the early morning hours of 2012. Sheriff Omar Lucio believes the fireworks stand was targeted because of the holidays.
"So during that time, a lot of people do buy fireworks and they do have quite a bit of money, and he knew there would be some money there," says Lucio.
No one was injured. The suspect's bond has been set at $100,000.
