ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) Traion Smith rushed for 157 yards and four touchdowns and Cameron Yoe defended its Class 2A Division I championship with a 35-14 victory over Wall on Thursday night.
Yoe (15-1) broke a 14-all tie early in the fourth quarter with a 15-play, 85-yard drive capped by a 6-yard pass from quarterback Jason Kopriva to Aaron Sims. Kopriva converted two third downs on the drive with passes and a fourth down on a fake-punt pass.
Smith added two insurance touchdown runs in the final 7:09.
Yoe has won three state football titles. The first was in 1981 in Class 3A.
This was the first trip to a state football final for Wall (15-1).
The Hawks rushed for 279 yards in their triple-option flexbone offense, led by Brent Matschek with 107 on seven carries. Wall's four second-half possessions ended in three turnovers and a punt.
Wall outgained Yoe 251 yards to 128 and ran 36 plays to 18 for Yoe in the first half, which ended in a 14-14 tie.
Wall's first-quarter touchdown run of 54 yards by Matschek, untouched over the final 40 yards, was matched by a 2-yard scoring run by Smith.
Yoe's drive was set up by a 63-yard kickoff return by Sims. He muffed the kick at the 15-yard line, avoided two ankle tackles near the hash marks, and broke to the left sideline to reach Wall's 22.
Yoe took its first lead at 14-7 lead on Smith's second 2-yard touchdown run when he followed the inside blocking of left tackle Joshua Stubbs with 4:54 remaining the half.
Wall responded with a 72-yard march that ended with only 11 seconds left in the half. Running back Kris Gutierrez's sprint around left end for a 10-yard touchdown came on fourth-and-6.
