ROMA - Customs and Border Protection agents on Tuesday reunited a mother and her daughter.

The woman told authorities they were separated while crossing illegally into the United States near Roma. Her daughter allegedly was being held for ransom. Officials tracked the girl to Houston where agents rescued her.

"What's important to remember here is the successful outcome," Border Patrol Spokesman Henry Mendiola said.

"The message that we need to get out to Central and South America is the fact that not every story ends this happy," Mendiola said.

The mother and daughter will be returned to their country of origin.
