MCALLEN - The McAllen Chamber of Commerce is stepping up and packing up, in order to help kids crossing the border.

The commerce is collecting backpacks for thousands of children crossing the border each day.

The backpacks will be filled with snacks, fresh clothes and other items

Steve Ahleniun, Mcallen Chamber of Commerce spokesperson said, "Regardless of the politics, regardless of if you agree with United States immigration, you have human beings that we are dealing with first. The discussion and the debate about the policy can come later."

New or used backpacks and other donations can be dropped off at the McAllen Chamber of Commerce. That location is 1200 Ash Avenue. They will be distributed in McAllen and Brownsville.
