NEAR LINN-SAN MANUEL - Part of southbound Highway 281 was reduced to one lane after a multi-vehicle crash. It happened just south of 186, which is in the Linn-San Manuel area.
DPS troopers say this morning they were involved in a pursuit that started in Brooks County and lasted about 30 minutes. That chase ended in the crash. One person was taken into custody. DPS troopers, Border Patrol agents and ICE agents are still on the scene.
Troopers say they began to chase a red pickup after noticing the suspect was driving the truck with a club security device securing the steering wheel. Troopers say the suspect never approached dangerous speeds, traveling the speed limit. Authorities then put out spikes, which is how the vehicle was stopped.
Investigators with DPS, Border Patrol and ICE were investigating the pursuit. They shut down traffic to just one lane. Troopers say drivers were rubber-necking and three cars were involved in a pile-up. Two people were taken to the hospital.
The person involved in the pursuit was arrested and is waiting to be booked into the Hidalgo County jail.
