SOUTH PADRE ISLAND – Residents and South Padre Island officials are preparing for the spike in visitors for the spring break vacation.

Interim City Manager, Randy Smith, says they're expecting a big crowd to check-in to their hotel rooms on Saturday with possibly some traffic at the causeway.

Junior Zuniga says his friends just got to South Padre Island from Fort Worth for spring break.

"I don't think the traffic is as bad during Spring Break as it is during the summer because the kids are walking more than they’re driving," says Zuniga.

South Padre Island sent out a bulletin to its residents suggesting they avoid driving at peak times.

Public Information Officer, Nikki Soto, says the city expects Wednesday through next Saturday to be the peak dates for the spring break.

Junior and his friends say they're just looking forward to fun, safe time.

Community members are also asked to help with parking management and beach clean-up.
