DENVER (AP) The Democratic-controlled Colorado House has given the initial OK to measures expanding gun control. The vote came Friday night after a daylong debate and a few lawmakers were called personally by Vice President Joe Biden. The proposals include advanced ammunition limits and expanded background checks.

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (AP) It was apparently one of his bullets, not officers' or a fire that killed fugitive ex-cop Christopher Dorner. Law enforcement officials say Dorner apparently died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Officials now say that he spent most of his time on the run in a mountain condo near the command center set up to apprehend him.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) The Coast Guard says an Alaska man arrested in last year's shooting deaths of two employees at a Coast Guard communications station on Kodiak Island was a co-worker of the victims. Federal prosecutors say James Michael Wells worked as a civilian Coast Guard employee at the communications station at that time.

WASHINGTON (AP) Former Chicago Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr. and his wife have cut plea deals with federal prosecutors. He's accused of a $750,000 scheme to use campaign donations for personal use including luxury items for himself and his wife. Both could face prison time, fines and forfeitures.

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (AP) A survivor of the sinking of the HMS Bounty has testified at a federal hearing that the captain gathered the crew shortly before the replica ship sank to ask what went wrong. It went down off the coast of North Carolina during the October superstorm. Captain Robin Walbridge was never found. A second crew member also died. The three-mast replica was built in 1962 for the film "Mutiny on the Bounty."
