MCALLEN - Crews are working to clear a small plane wreck at McAllen-Miller International Airport.
The single-engine plane crash-landed short of the main runway this morning. The pilot walked away and is expected to be fine.
Director of Aviation Phillip Brown tells CHANNEL 5 NEWS the plane took off from the airport and immediately had engine problems. He said the pilot tried circling back but crashed just short of the runway.
The crash affected air traffic for a few hours. An American Airlines flight scheduled to land at the airport was diverted to Corpus Christi. United delayed a flight until crews cleared the crash scene.
Air traffic appears to have returned to normal.
