WESLACO - There is no financial relief in sight for landowners near the border fence.
Congressman Henry Cuellar asked the Government Accountability Office last year to study the property damage problem near the border. He said people crossing the border destroy fences and trash vacant homes.
Cuellar wants the GAO to find money to repay those property owners. The congressman hopes the GAO will finish its study by next year.
"I'm hoping they'll give us some ideas as to where we can come up with some resources. The GAO is a very well respected entity. The members of congress respect them. It's not a guarantee, but it gives us a way to come up with a solution," Cuellar said.
