AUSTIN, Texas (AP) Jeremiah Jefferson scored 29 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as Dallas Triple A Academy beat Mumford 80-54 and take the Class 1A Division I boys' basketball title.
Triple A Academy is the first charter-school state champion in University Interscholastic League athletics.
It trailed 18-11 at the end of first quarter after shooting just 19 percent from the floor. So it went to a smaller, guard-oriented lineup to take a 38-29 halftime lead. Triple A Academy then scored 11 points off Mumford turnovers in the third period to open a 59-43 lead.
Tyler Singleton added 18 points for Triple A Academy (28-5), and Frank Hollis hit for 12 points.
LaKendric Hyson had 22 points and 10 rebounds to lead Mumford (39-1), which lost in the finals for the second consecutive year. Aubrie King added 13 points for the Mustangs, who were outrebounded 40-26 and surrendered 23 second-chance points.
