AUSTIN, Texas (AP) Wendy Davis, the Democratic nominee for Texas governor, is replacing her campaign manager.

Davis made the announcement Wednesday as her campaign has struggled against Republican front runner Greg Abbott, long considered a strong favorite in the race.

Davis says Karin Johanson agreed to step aside in favor of Texas Rep. Chris Turner, an Arlington Democrat.

Johanson is well-known nationally as a top Democratic strategist. She managed the campaign of U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin, the Wisconsin Democrat who became the first openly gay candidate elected to the U.S. Senate.

Turner is an Arlington Democrat who previously was a campaign manager for former U.S. Rep. Chet Edwards. In a news release, Davis said Turner had nearly two decades of Texas politics experience "and knows how to win in tough races."
