WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) Delaware officials are offering Springleaf Financial Services a grant tied to more than 200 call center jobs.

The News Journal reports (http://delonline.us/1cqx8a7 ) that the grant package totals a little more than $1 million for the creation of 235 new jobs and a smaller award for capital improvements.

Bernice Whaley, deputy director for the Delaware Economic Development Office, says that in addition to a potential location in New Castle, the Evansville, Ind.-based non-traditional lender is also looking at placing call center positions near its headquarters or Houston, Texas.

Springleaf began testing the market in Delaware in July with a 10-member team based in office space in Fairfax. The firm has since agreed to create 25 high-wage positions for financial analysts and computer engineers under a $269,403 performance grant.
