WESLACO - Hidalgo County sheriff's deputies are investigating the abuse and death of several horses north of Weslaco.
Area residents called authorities after spotting four dead horses on a property. An animal wrangler for the county was sent to site. He found three other horses in poor health.
"They look better. I fed (them) hay, fresh water and they got the roof over here. They are healthier ... they look better," Toe Martinez said.
Officials said the owners of the animals are in Michigan. The owners claim they left someone in charge of the horses.
