Dow Chemical looking to spin off, sell 40 plants

MIDLAND, Mich. (AP) Dow Chemical wants to spin off or sell about 40 manufacturing plants as it moves away from cyclical commodity products.

The Michigan-based company said Monday it expects the deals to happen within two years. Almost 2,000 workers will be affected.

The assets include:

U.S. Gulf Coast chlor-alkali and chlor-vinyl facilities in Plaquemine (PLAK'-uh-min), La., and Freeport, Texas.

global chlorinated organics production plants in Freeport and Plaquemine

the global epoxy business, including assets in Freeport and Roberta, Ga.

its brine and select assets supporting operations in Freeport and Plaquemine, and energy operations in Plaquemine.

Dow will also shut down about 800,000 tons of chlorine and other capacity in Freeport.
