AUSTIN, Texas (AP) Travanti Downes had 22 points and 12 rebounds and Kennedale rolled over Smithville 87-66 Thursday in the Class 3A state semifinals.

Autummn Williams added 22 points for Kennedale (31-6), which fell just short of the 3A tournament record of most points scored (92) set by Buna in 1960, nearly 20 years before the girls' state tournament changed to a full-court format.

Kennedale blew the game open in the first quarter, shooting 13 of 20 from the field in building a 30-10 lead. Smithville also had one its players score in the wrong basket on a layup off an inbounds pass. The miscue mattered little, however, as Downes and Williams had little trouble running Kennedale's transition offense fueled by 28 Smithville turnovers.

Taryn Leiferman scored 19 points to lead Smithville (29-8)Dow.
