Driver Hits Middle School Student

HARLINGEN - A sixth grader is recovering, after a car hit her in front of Vernon Middle School in Harlingen this morning.

Police said when the accident happened, a crossing guard was present and was holding the stop sign to halt traffic. The 56-year-old male driver was cited for failing to yield.

According to officers, the 11-year-old was conscious and talking before being taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
