AUSTIN, Texas (AP) Ariel Atkins scored 29 points and grabbed 11 rebounds and a top-ranked Duncanville rode a dominant third quarter to a 64-40 win over League City Clear Springs on Friday in a Class 5A state semifinal.
Clear Springs rallied from an early 22-7 deficit to pull within 27-26 on Kaylin Roher's 3-pointer to open the third. Duncanville, the defending state champion, answered with a 17-0 run that put the game away.
Duncanville (41-0) dominated under the basket with a 34-15 scoring advantage in the paint and outrebounded Clear Springs 46-22.
Kiara Perry had 11 points and 13 rebounds for Duncanville, which is trying to become the first repeat 5A champion since Mansfield won four in a row from 1999-2002.
Courtney Latham had 16 points for Clear Springs (38-3).
