MERCEDES - Police in Mercedes are investigating an early morning shooting. Investigators are waiting to speak to the victim, who's in surgery.

We're told investigators learned about the shooting from Knapp Medical Center officials. They called police to report a man was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound.

Police suspect he was injured at a home near 10th Street and Washington.

Mercedes Police Chief Olga Maldonado said investigators are hoping to learn more about the shooting after the victim is out of surgery.
