WESLACO – Results for Rio Grande Valley city and school elections are in.

The Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District’s $220 million bond proposal was overwhelmingly rejected by voters.

According to Hidalgo County Elections Department, more than 72% of voters said “no” to the bond compared to more than just 27% who voted “for” the bond.

Edinburg CISD said in a statement:

“The voters have spoken, and the school district respects the electoral process. We will reevaluate and accommodate to serve the best interest of our students as our district moves forward.”

In Brownsville, a new mayor will take office, but it is unclear who it will be.

More than 12,400 ballots were cast in Brownsville and out of the four seats up for grabs on the commission, only one race was clearly decided; three are headed to runoffs.

The Brownsville District 1 commissioner seat is also headed for a runoff.
