WASHINGTON (AP) A flood of newspaper endorsements as the presidential campaign nears its nail-biting conclusion are being hyped by both candidates.
Republican nominee Mitt Romney has picked up support from the Columbus Dispatch and the Detroit News, while President Barack Obama got a thumbs-up from The Washington Post and the Las Vegas Sun.
But do voters care?
Not really, says political scientist Jack Pitney of Claremont McKenna College.
Most voters have already made up their minds. For those who haven't, they may not want to take advice from their local newspaper if they perceive the paper leans one way or the other politically.
Newspaper endorsements could have a larger effect in state and local races, where voters often have heard less about the candidates than in the presidential race.
