WESLACO - Extra law enforcement will be on patrol making sure residents obey the rules during New Year's Eve celebrations. Many cities don't allow fireworks. If you're in the county, you must be on your own property to shoot fireworks.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission offers a list of tips to ring in the new year safely. The suggestions include:

• Not letting children play with or light fireworks
• Keep water nearby
• Make sure everyone is out of the path of the fireworks
