MCALLEN - The body of Andres Frias was recovered from a canal near McAllen. He had vanished on August 2 after fishing with friends and deciding to go for a swim to cool off.
His family had been at the canal every day since he went missing. The family gathered at home after hearing the news. Their mission to find the body of 18-year-old Andres Frias was over.
"The tears, they were not tears of pain, hopelessness, or anguish, nothing. My tears are now of joy of having my son's body recovered. I mean I feel great, I feel like I have done something, y'know? That I came home not empty-handed, that I came home with something," said Maria Frias.
Maria Frias had sat by the canal for nine days waiting on word of her son. She was never alone.
"I didn't know that I was going to have so many people around me, y'know? Prayers, there was a lot of people with me," she recalled.
The family is now making funeral arrangements for Andres Frias.
