SALT LAKE CITY (AP) Utah's largest oil producer told state regulators an explosion killed a welder who was using his torch on a crude oil storage tank at a well site.

The Uintah County Sheriff's Department says 28-year-old Tyson Boren of Neola was killed by the blast. The welder for Boren Construction was working for well owner Newfield Exploration Co.

The explosion occurred near rural Myton, about 100 miles east of Salt Lake City.

Sheriff's Cpl. Brian Fletcher says Newfield's well pumper was taken to a hospital with injuries. The 32-year-old man, Rusty Harris, is expected to recover.

Fletcher says Boren was doing some kind of welding on the tank or a valve. He says the tank contained mix of crude oil and waste water.
