MISSION - FBI agents surrounded an apartment complex at near Shary Road and Military Highway Wednesday after a Border Patrol agent allegedly assaulted three women.
The Border Patrol agent lived at the complex.
According to CBP officials, the investigation started Wednesday when agents found an injured woman. That woman told authorities a man assaulted her and two others. She was taken to the hospital.
Agents continued their search and found one of the teenagers. CBP officials, along with other local authorities, continued the search for the third victim.
Overnight, the investigation led Mission police to the agent's home at the apartment complex.
People who live at the apartment complex said FBI agents told them to leave the area while they searched the suspect's unit. Residents said the FBI agents were armed with rifles.
"They said, "Shots fired; shots fired." We didn't hear any shots. Then they asked us to remove our kids from the room that was attached to his apartment," Chelsea Blair said.
"An hour later, after they were standing outside with guns, they asked us to leave," Blair said.
FBI agents found the suspect's body. Authorities said he died from a self-inflicted gunshot. The remaining assault victim was found alive inside the agent's home.
FBI agents are leading the investigation and CBP is assisting. According to a media release from the FBI, the three victims are undocumented immigrants.
