CAMERON COUNTY - Attorney Filemon Vela Jr. of Brownsville has won the newly created 34th Congressional District.
Vela said his priority will be improving education, security and the job market in is district.
Vela defeated Republican Jessica Puente Bradshaw Tuesday.
Vela was considered a favorite in the race to win the district, which runs down the Texas coast into the Rio Grande Valley. Vela is the son of a longtime former federal judge in Brownsville.
