WESLACO- Fire officials are warning people about the danger of holiday lights.
Fire officials tells CHANNEL 5 NEWS water is important when putting lights on a natural christmas tree.
The U.S. Department of Commerce released a safety video with information about how fast a fire can spread.
"A lot of people don't realize they need to be watered every day, especially when you first cut them. They need to keep the water full because it will drain the tank in one day." said Weslaco paramedic, Chris Cuellar.
Cuellar also advises consumers not to buy holiday decor from from a street vendor. He says you should make sure the boxes are sealed before buying any lights and to check for exposed copper or frays.
