BROWNSVILLE - A former Marine has been released from a prison in Matamoros.
Jon Hammar was released at approximately 8 p.m. Friday. He returned to the United States through the Veterans International Bridge.
Hammar's father, his lawyer and a member of the U.S. consulate in Matamoros greeted the former Marine upon his arrival on U.S. soil.
The media and other people were kept away from the reunion.
"I can tell you in laymen's terms he was not guilty. His defense proved to the trial judge that he was not guilty," Attorney Eddie Varon Levy said.
