Former GEAR UP student Valeria Salazar is currently attending UTPA and is pursuing a career in the medical field.

She's also pursuing something that's very close to her heart.

She wants kids to remember the importance of attending college and that message is now on a t shirt she designed.

"We are called the student leadership council so wanted to describe what we do and in the leadership as you can see is surrounded by the skills a leader has like how they challenge themselves, the desire, the ambition the dedication."

The t shirt also reads "we believe, lead and succeed."

Valeria says she has succeeded because of GEAR UP.
"GEAR UP kind of opened up my eyes to see my education was not going to stop after high school. I was going to college, I don't know which one and I ended up in Pan Am."

And now that she's in college herself, she's working with these youngsters to help them pursue their dreams.

"My role in the convening of today is to guide the students, to help them be themselves and not to be afraid to talk to speak their heart out, to dream like Justin said and that nothing is impossible and to pursue their dreams."
