SAN ANTONIO - A pair of Valley attempts to reach the Regional semi-finals in girls' basketball fell far short in UIL tournament play on Tuesday night. Harlingen stayed close to home for the Regional quarter-final with Alexander. However, the UT-Pan Am floor was friendlier to the visiting Lady Bulldogs than the Lady Cards. Alexander swamped Harlingen 52-34. In San Antonio, the Rowe Lady Warriors hoped playing in the home city of Friday's regional tournament might serve as motivation and momentum for a weekend trip to UT-SA. Instead, Del Rio had its way in a 15 point decision, 53-38 over Rowe. The losses knock the two final Valley girls teams from the post-season and effectively end the local girls' season.
