McALLEN - Paula Gonzalez hit the ground running Monday as she took over athletics for the McAllen school district. The new athletic director has coaching ties to the Valley as the long time head volleyball coach at Pace high school in Brownsville. Her previous stops in athletic administration include Santa Rosa here at home and Soccoro on the west Texas border. She spoke to boys' basketball players from Nikki Rowe before the team played Monday's bi-district encounter with Laredo United.
