WESLACO - Governor Rick Perry will be in the Rio Grande Valley to tour a federal facility housing children caught crossing the border alone. He'll also visit the DPS Region 3 headquarters in Weslaco.

Perry is scheduled for an afternoon briefing by DPS Director Steve McCraw regarding the state's new border surge operation. Perry recently granted DPS $1.3 million a week to fund the operation. The money will be used to increase state patrols on the border.

A lot of information about where the money is going isn't being released due to security reasons. We have learned the DPS troopers sent to the border will target drug and human trafficking. The department has no authority over immigration. Their focus is on cartels and other threats to the border.

The city of McAllen and Hidalgo County will be holding a roundtable discussion this morning to address issues resulting from the overflow of illegal immigration.
