BROWNSVILLE - A Cameron County grand jury no billed police officers involved in a shooting at a Brownsville middle school. That means they didn't find sufficient probable cause to bring charges against the officers.
A Brownsville police officer shot 15-year-old Jaime Gonzalez, after the teen entered Cummings Middle School and was armed with what appeared to be a handgun.
Gonzalez was taken to the Valley Baptist Medical Center in Brownsville, where he was pronounced dead.
"My heart goes out to the Gonzalez family," Cameron County District Attorney Armando Villalobos said. "The loss of a child under any circumstances is a tragedy that is unimaginable."
He stated, "Unfortunately, in this day and age of high profile mass shootings at public places, like Columbine, Aurora, and Wisconsin; law enforcement responses to perceived threats can be immediate and deadly."
