BELMONT, N.C. (AP) A Belmont police officer is recovering after he was accidentally shot in the leg by another officer's gun. Police say they responded to a home just after 6 o'clock Monday night for a road rage call. While officers tried to restrain a belligerent woman, one of their guns went off and hit the pavement. Bullet fragments struck both the woman and 34-year-old Officer Randy Berry in the leg.
CLAYTON, N.C. (AP) Two people have been charged in a deadly shooting during a New Year's Party in Clayton. The Johnson County sheriff says 35-year-old Monteese Sharick Ray is charged with first-degree murder. Twenty-nine-year-old Marcellus Carlyle Sinclair is charged with two counts of attempted murder.
DURHAM, N.C. (AP) North Carolina Gov.-elect Pat McCrory will speak to bankers about what he plans to do for the state's economy in 2013. McCrory accepted the invitation to talk today to the 11th Annual Economic Forecast Forum.
ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) Witnesses have told investigators that a man who wrecked his car in Asheville, killing his 3-year-old daughter, was speeding away from a wreck. Witnesses say 37-year-old David Jones was going more than 80 mph, running lights, and weaving when he missed a curve and went over an embankment last month.
