PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) The debate over gay marriage is taking center stage in the Statehouse. A House committee is scheduled to review gay marriage legislation today. A vote is expected by the end of the month.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) A former Chariho school committee member has been found guilty of violating the state's social host law. According to The Providence Journal, a judge gave Terri Serra a six-month suspended sentence. Several high school students who drank at her home were seriously injured later in a car crash.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) A lawyer who pleaded guilty in November to using the identities of terminally ill patients to illegally obtain millions of dollars from insurance companies and brokerage houses wants to withdraw his plea. Joseph Caramadre (cah-rah-MAH'-dray) says he's innocent. A hearing is set for today.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) University of Rhode Island economist Leonard Lardaro says the state's economy showed more upward momentum in October than he's seen in "quite some time." He has released his "Current Conditions Index," which tracks several economic indicators on a monthly basis.
