JOHANNESBURG (AP) A Texas graduate student remains in critical condition in South Africa after he was mauled by chimpanzees. Andrew Oberle had surgery yesterday in Johannesburg. He's been studying anthropology in Texas and was giving a lecture when the two chimpanzees grabbed him and pulled him under a fence. He had several bite wounds.

PORTLAND, Texas (AP) Friends and supporters have held a memorial service for a 19-year-old Ingleside woman shot to death in a usually quiet Texas Coastal Bend community. Mollie Olgin was killed and 18-year-old Mary Kristene Chapa was wounded in the park shooting. The two women were a couple, but police say there's no evidence their relationship was a motive for the shooting.

BRYAN, Texas (AP) It's taken a Brazos County jury less than five hours to send a man to death row for strangling a woman. Investigators say Hailey and her son were attacked at their College Station home. The boy called his grandma to say a man killed his mother and "choked" him. The boy, who's now 11, suffered stab wounds.

CIUDAD VICTORIA, Mexico (AP) Seven people have been wounded when a grenade went off in a pickup truck outside city hall in the border city of Nuevo Laredo. The seven victims were hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries, a statement from local officials said. The facade of the city building was damaged, along with nearby cars.
