HOUSTON (AP) Actor Danny Glover has met with Houston janitors to discuss the wages they earn. Glover spoke to more than 300 people at a rally yesterday also featuring U.S. Representatives Al Green and Sheila Jackson Lee. Glover says "it is our duty and responsibility to stand up for a living wage."
ARANSAS PASS, Texas (AP) An 18-year-old man has been arrested in the death of a 16-year-old coastal Texas girl. Aransas Pas police say Lawrence Mireles was taken into custody Saturday in connection with the killing of Jenna Hernandez. The teen's aunt says Mireles is a distant cousin.
DENVER (AP) The federal government is expected to announce that the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area is one of three places receiving a new U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. The other two metropolitan areas chosen are Denver and San Jose, Calif. The offices will be open by 2014.
FORT BRAGG, N.C. (AP) Military officials say a soldier who killed his superior officer at Fort Bragg before turning the gun on himself has died. The Army says 27-year-old Ricky Elder died Friday, one day after allegedly shooting Lieutenant Colonel Roy Tisdale of Alvin, Texas. A third soldier was also wounded in the shooting and has been released from the hospital.
